Nerve pinched signs and symptoms
The symptoms and signs of nerve pinched problem depend on the location of the affected nerve. Each nerve performs the duty of sending information from or to the different parts of the body. The most common signs of pinched nerves are pain, tingling, numbness and muscle weakness. Burning pain occurs due to the pinched nerve that comes from the spinal cord. This pain may increase by sneezing and coughing. Muscle weakness is the main symptom of this disease and you feel twitching in the area that is affected by nerve pinched. There comes a frequent feeling of fallen asleep of hand or foot if you have the nerve pinched problem.
Nerve pinched in the neck
Nerves are very sensitive but mostly nerve pinched in the neck heals without treatment. But if you feel pain for a few weeks from a little compression then take it seriously. Spinal steno sis, arthritis, herniated disk and bone spurs may cause a pinched nerve in the neck. A person who suffers from neck pain knows the importance of getting some relief. Neck pain makes it difficult to do very simple things for example to bend down and pick up the paper and even getting out of the bed. So a nerve pinched in the neck can make you uncomfortable and give you extreme pain.
Nerve pinched in wrist
If you ever felt tingling or numbing feeling of a limb while falling asleep it means you are experiencing the nerve pinched problem. The numbness and pain starts from the shoulder then it goes down the arm and wrist with such intensity that one or tow fingers also go under this tingling sensation. If you feel pain while moving your arm; this is the symptom of pinched nerve. Firstly you feel numbness then the feeling of muscle's weakness arises in the affected arm. A hand therapy is very affective if you have nerve pinched problem in your wrist or arm.
Treatment if having nerve pinched problem
Most of the time the nerve pinched problem can be treated with the use of ice and rest but if the arm is affected by the pinched nerve then doctors recommend the use of brace. Brace limits the patient from movements which makes the nerve to rest and recover. In some cases doctor recommend to wear a splint before sleeping because wrist frequently extend and flex during the sleep. Physical therapy is very helpful to stretch and strengthen the specific muscles and also relieves the pressure and stretch on the pinched nerve. Anti-inflammatory medicines also reduce the pain and provide relief in nerve pinched case.
The use of surgery in nerve pinched problem
Doctors recommend surgery if the symptoms in nerve pinched problem do not improve in spite of using the medicines and physical therapy. The need of surgery is must if the patient feels additional weakness in the muscles or if the particular cause loss of control of the bladder or bowl. These signs show that the nerve damage is severe. The location of affected nerve is very important in surgery. If the wrist or elbow is having a pinched nerve then surgeons may release the tissue to free the pressure. If the nerve pinched problem is in the neck or lower back the neurosurgeon removes a portion of the disk which causes the compressing of nerve in the spine.
