Causes of Knee Bone Spurs

Knee joint has three distinctively different bones, namely upper leg bone or femur, lower leg bone orthe tibia, and the knee cap called patella. These bone structures get support from several muscles, ligaments and tendons present in the knee. Knee bone spurs may not show any significant sign in the beginning. Knee bone spurs start giving pain and discomfort as it grows further and begins to rub against its neighboring structure. Moreover, excessive activity related with knee joints such as running, jogging, weight lifting put additional pressure on the knee joint. Knee joints undergo excessive stretching and rubbing, wearing cartilage.

Healthy Life Style to Avoid Knee Bone Spurs

Absence of normal physical activity, nutritional deficiencies, poor postures and sometimes accidents may accelerate the knee bone spurs growth. As such, all individuals are vulnerable to this problem; the young, the middle aged and the old. In the initial stage, there is no visible symptom of this disease. If a person is having healthy physical habits, his/her weight is in the right ratio and does not indulge in junk food then there is little chance that he may suffer from knee bone spurs in the future. Very many problems that people suffer emanate from bad eating habits and poor diets.

General Treatment of Knee Bone Spurs

When knee bone spurs have significant growth and starts rubbing against nerves, tendons and ligaments then these gets inflamed triggering irritation and pain in the knee. The treatment of this commensurate with the intensity of pain and inflammation. When these are mild, then adequate rest to the knee joints may help in mitigating the trouble. If the symptoms are intense then application of ice cubes, drugs that are non-steroidal but anti-inflammatory are prescribed. In extreme cases, steroids are administered by the doctor to relieve the pain from Knee spurs. This may also help in retarding furthergrowth of the knee bone spurs.

Surgical Treatment of Knee Bone Spurs

When there is no respite visible from medicinal and physiotherapy channel and the pain becomes too intense to withstand then the knee bone spurs are removed by bone surgery. The patient should be in desirable health conditions and the surgical alternative is the last resort. Post surgery, the patient is prescribed a routine physical therapy procedure and rehabilitation regimen. This is very important to restore strength and suppleness in the knee joints. Over-weight persons are advised to reduce their weight to a desired level so that therapy can help them achieve results positively and faster too. There is no condition as to why you should not get your knee bone spurs healed with time.

Alternative Remedies for Knee Bone Spurs

Many people have found relief by alternative methods of treatment such as acupuncture, acupressure and message therapy. Natural remedies are also in place. 500-1000 mg of Curicumin, if taken 3-4 times a day in an empty stomach is effective in correcting knee bone spurs. Application of hot pack of flaxseed relieves pain. Alternate hot and cold sponging on the painful area for this is also helpful in curing it. These alternatives have no side effect. Since, these curing methods are age old tested therapy, one should have patience and faith as they act surely but slowly to cure knee bone spurs.
