Back Pain Surgery - How to Avoid It?

There are many treatments that are associated with back pain. Usually, it is believed that if a person has intense back pain, doctors always suggest back pain surgery so as to relieve and fix the problem. When a person undergoes these surgeries, they are usually supposed to rest for a few weeks, after which if all goes well their back would be better. According the research that has been done from the past, there are many people who have undergone surgeries but have not had good results. This means that a back pain surgery is not always the best option to treat the disorder.

Research on back pain surgery

The research that was carried out recently on back pain surgery has shown that most of the back pains, even those that are in the lower back will always resolve themselves without the need of surgery. What is always required is rest and maximum time. In fact when a person is experiencing the pains, what should be done are all the other options tried prior to scheduling surgery on the back. The research also shows that there are those that undergo this surgery and in the actual sense they can do without it. Back pain surgery should always not be the best option for the treatment.

Who needs a back pain surgery?

You should always beware of a person who needs back pain surgery or a situation that always require you to have one. Make sure that you are not convinced by anyone to undergo this process, the decision should always be yours and it should be one that is always well informed. Physicians also believe that surgery should only be carried out if all the other methods have been tried and have not worked, and the pain that a person is experiencing is significantly affecting the day to day life activities. Back pain surgery should also be considered if it deteriorates into a more serious state.

Non- back pain surgery treatments

One should not always have back pain surgery when they have back pains. Physical therapy is a great way to help the back and the spine to heal. This of course is followed with intense and special exercises. Often the physical therapists will always use other modalities; this may be things such as the heat or even the cold therapy, ultra sound, spinal traction, massage, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation in other words TENS which uses a painless electric current on certain nerves so as to relieve pain and at the same time improve back mobility. This is why there is no need for a back pain surgery.

Other means of treatment rather than back pain surgery

There are those patients who do not undergo back pain surgery; instead they find relief by the usage of some medications to relieve their pain. There are many kinds; there are those that can be found on counter and others prescription. Spinal injections can also relieve pains and in event help the doctor to determine the reason for the back pain. There are two kinds of injections that can be found. They are the facet joint injection and epidural steroid injections. They are used along with the physical therapy. They are a good option instead of the back pain surgery.
